About Us

For over 100 years, The Lauing Family has ranched in Central South Dakota. As the third and fourth generations ranching here, we continue to build our program. Our mission is to preserve the usability and accomplishments of Blue Valentine/Joe Hanock foundation through offspring bred for your consideration.

Foals from our ranch go on to other breeding programs, to the arena, to be used as working ranch horses, and for personal saddle horses. These horses are mounting competitors from youth to the PRCA all across the country. They are cowy horses that are smooth moving across the pasture and quick on their feet in the arena. They have color, conformation and size with muscle and the right amount of bone to perform in all disciplines. Horses raised here will do well anywhere.

All Lauing Ranch stallions and mares are AQHA tested negative for the 5 panel genetics test. Keeping true to the Blue Valentine Legacy with stallions such as Bonny Blues, Blue Fox Hancock, and Hancocks Red Fox, with impressive names on their papers including Roan Ambrose, Leo Hancock Hayes and Fox Coup. All three of these stallions were all Plenty Try grandsons, Blue Valentine grandsons and 43.75% Blue Valentine. Lauing Ranch has added several young stallions to the program including: Plenty Coup Bonnet, a grandson of Plenty Try, who is 50% Gooseberry. JM Rowdy Blue Hayes, 46.09% Blue Valentine & homozygous roan and black with no agouti. LR Stretch Up Revue, sired by legendary Revue Hancock & homozygous roan and black with no agouti. Bonny Goose, sired by Bonny Blues, out of Blue Half Blue, a daughter of Ruano Rojo/Diane Valentine with 46.88% Blue Valentine. The Lauings are AQHA Lifetime Members, consecutively breeding horses for over 40 years and recognized as Ranching Heritage Breeders since 2009 with Lauing Ranch foals being eligible and can be nominated to the AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge. Lauing Ranch was also honored to be recognized by their peers at SDQHA as the 2021 Producer of the Year.

The best way to see what Lauing Ranch has to offer, is to see the horses for yourself in South Dakota. Visitors are always welcome. We would love to show you our horses. We have been fortunate to be in a business we love which continues to help us connect with our buyers who have become friends over the years. We say thanks to all of you who have purchased horses from us in the past and we look forward to visiting with you this year.
